TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER (TMD)
Your temporomandibular joints (TMJ), connect your lower jawbone to your skull. Pain in and around these joints can be unpleasant and may restrict movement, this pain is called temporomandibular disorder or TMD.
Some of the Symptoms of TMD:
- Pain in the jaw area
- Pain, ringing or stuffiness in the ears
- Frequent headaches or neck aches
- Clicking of popping sound when the jaw moves
- Muscle spasms in the jaw area
- A change in the alignment of top and bottom teeth
- Locked jaw or limited opening of the mouth

In the meantime, there are steps you can take to help:
- Relax your face.
- Have your lips together, teeth apart.
- Be intentional and keep your teeth apart and avoid griding.
- Avoid chewing gum.
- Don’t cradle your phone receiver between your head and shoulder.
- Chew food evenly on both sides of your mouth.
- Do not sit with your chin rested in your hands.
- Practice good posture. Keep your head up, straight back and shoulder squared.
- Avoid heavy purses, and don carry your purse only on one side, alternate shoulders.
